The practice of yoga is at least 6000 years old! However it was not until Buddha's time,
approximately 5000 years ago, that asana's (postures/physical movements) were introduced into
Yoga. Yoga originates from the 'Vedas' - a collection of scriptures written in Sanskrit, an ancient
form of spiritual writing in India. The many books that make up the 'Vedas' are the oldest books
known to mankind and are housed in a library in India.

Hatha Yoga is a series of physical postures and stretches that were developed to facilitate
'meditation' and 'enlightenment'. All Yoga practices that involve 'asanas', no matter what style; Power
Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Bikram Yoga etc., originated from Hatha Yoga. For our
purposes we will use Yoga Asanas to develop strength, flexibility, stress relief and to improve our
overall health.

Yoga postures should be practiced with ease, comfort, and enjoyment.....forget the old saying "no
pain, no gain"!

We will practice Hatha Yoga with an emphasis on gently flowing from one posture to the next.
Benefits will include strengthening your muscles, hips and spine. Increasing your flexibility, balance
and strengthening your core. You will be improving your circulation, co-ordination and stimulating
your lymphatic system. Finally, by incorporating proper breathing you will increase your lung
capacity, decrease your stress and improve your overall emotional well being!
